Naracoorte Caves

The Naracoorte Caves are one of the most popular and high-visited tourist sites in the Limestone Coast. This iconic tourist attraction is South Australia’s only World Heritage listed site and one of the world’s most important fossil sites. There are five different caves to explore in Naracoorte. Over 500,000 years ago, marsupials such as Thylacoleo, Diprotodon, and giant kangaroos roamed the area. Today their fossils are on display.

Naracoorte Swimming Lake

The Naracoorte Swimming Lake is the perfect spot to cool off in the Summer. This huge manmade lake caters for everyone, with shallow sections for the littlies, enclosed children’s area, deeper sections for lane swimming and diving pontoon. The lake has plenty of shade, BBQ facilities, a playground and a small kiosk.

Minijumbuk produces world-class, handmade Australia wool. Its factory outlet is based in Naracoorte therefore making it a great place to get high-quality quilts, mattress toppers and pillows at a discounted rate. Sleeping under wool is much cosier than sleeping under other fibres due to its heaviness. Aside from bedding, they offer sheepskin footwear, gloves, woollen hats, socks, scarves and souvenirs.

Coonawarra

The Coonawarra is the ultimate destination for red wine lovers, located only 40km south of Naracoorte. The regions mediterranean climate and rich terra roosa soil- a soil type consisting of a brown sandy loam over red-brown clay over limestone, makes it the perfect home to over 25 wineries. The Coonawarra is the perfect destination for a wine tour as the vineyards are located within a relatively small region, only 20 kilometres in length and two kilometres in diameter. The Coonawarra is home to the famous Cabernet Sauvignon. Many of Coonawarra’s cellar doors offer an array of food & wine experiences. Popular Coonawarra wineries include DiGiorgio Family Wines, Majella Wines Coonawarra and Rymill Coonawarra.

Padthaway Wine Region

Riddoch Highway, Padthaway.

Located 50km north of Naracoorte and consists of a 60km long stretch of land which has some of the best wine manufacturing soils in Australia. The Padthaway wine region is home to several well-known vineyards including Padthaway Estate and Redden Bridge Wine. The Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay and Pinot Noir wines are the major wines produced in the area.

Naracoorte Creek Walk

The Naracoorte Creek Walk is approximately 5km long and follows the Naracoorte Creek through the township of Naracoorte and along Naracoorte’s Nature Park.

Naracoorte Town Square is the home the Naracoorte Soundshell and the Naracoorte War Memorial. Located in the centre of Naracoorte, it is a popular spot for community gatherings as well as providing a place to stop and enjoy lunch.

Bool Lagoon Conservation Park

The Bool Lagoon is one of the largest and most diverse freshwater lagoon systems in South Australia. It is the home to a wide range of wildlife including over 150 species of birds, insects and frogs. Take a walk along the boardwalk over the wetlands feel like you are walking on water and to capture the spectacular views of the blue lagoon water.

The Sheep’s Back Museum

The Sheep’s Back Museum tells the story of the Australian wool industry. The museum focuses on the woolshed and the skills and trades of the workers in the industry overtime. It educates visitors on the impact the industry has had on the environment. The museum is based in an 1870s flour mill house.
